Timothy Quigley

Timothy has enjoyed teaching drums and percussion for over 30 years and is at home teaching students of all ages and ability levels. His teaching style is rooted in helping students spark a lifelong love of music—finding expression, joy, and inspiration playing their instrument. He brings a diverse musical background, and extensive performance, recording, and touring experience to his teaching. He plays bass and guitar with his students to further strengthen their musical understanding, enabling them to collaborate with other musicians, and many of his students have gone on to perform locally and some have toured/recorded with high profile acts.

Timothy Quigley had the good fortune to study with a number of great masters. He has toured all over the world with great talents and played on numerous records including Chicha Libre’s cult classic Sonido Amazonico. His band’s music and original compositions have appeared on TV shows such as The Simpsons, Weeds, and a host of documentaries and commercials. Since moving to Vermont, he regularly performs with pianist Ira Friedman, the Bent Nail’s Bistro House Band, Les Dead Ringers, Soul Porpoise, and with Greg Hayes’ The Dorado Collective.

He offers lessons on drum set, congas, bongos, doumbek, frame drums, and other hand percussion in many styles including Jazz, Blues, Rock, RnB, New Wave, Funk, Punk, African, Brazilian, Balkan, Asia Minor, and Middle Eastern. He also works with students on musicianship, orchestration, transcription, overcoming performance anxiety, and developing confidence.

Timothy teaches beginning electric bass for all ages. His teaching style is anchored by a strong rhythmic background as a drummer and percussionist. He teaches technique and theory through learning songs and developing a vocabulary of styles. He plays drums with his bass students to directly apply their understanding of the role of the bass in ensemble playing.

Timothy began doubling on bass in the early aughts with a Serbian band called PECTOPAH as a way to make ends meet when he first moved to NYC as a session and touring drummer. He laid the bass down for many years due to a demanding performance schedule. Shortly after moving to Montpelier he was asked to become the bassist for The Nailers (formerly Duroc), one of Central Vermont’s most loved cover bands. They play a raucous and adventurous mixture of Pop, Rock, New Wave and Punk that ranges from the early ’60’s to the present.
