Jenni Charles
Jenni and her family moved to the area recently and she is excited to be part of the Central Vermont music community. She has taught music for 24 years, including teaching fiddle, guitar, voice, piano, ukulele, and mandolin. She finds so much joy teaching all ages, from beginners to experienced folks! She loves to teach the beginner violinist, pianist or mandolinist how to read music as she feels it opens up their world exponentially. She finds that students playing uke or guitar often want to learn to sing and strum (like for a campfire jam), and she is very well versed in this as well. Starting violin at the age of 5, she studied the Suzuki method until she was 10. At the young age of 11, her education continued, learning old-time bluegrass (participating in old-time fiddle contests and in bands), classical (in orchestra) and pop (by ear). She even played in her classic country family band!
She studied Philosophy, Jazz Violin, and Early Childhood Education at UC Santa Cruz and spent much of her life on the west coast. She’s been in many bands of different genres throughout her life and will happily help you get yours going or help you work on playing with others so you can join one! Jamming is a major part of her life and she teaches students how to make music with others and feel comfortable in any setting playing any style of music. When she isn't teaching, you can find her playing shows with her husband as a duo, or in their band, Dead Winter Carpenters, a nationally touring alt rock/bluegrass group formed 13 years ago.
