Elizabeth Reid
Elizabeth Reid is an experienced and highly skilled violin and viola teacher available for teaching studio and group lessons at all ages and levels.
For each of her students, she draws on her extensive experience in pedagogy and repertoire to create an individual program for maximum success. Her philosophy is to develop "joyful discipline" through practice planning and deep foundational work.
Elizabeth's students have achieved high honors as section and principal players in the All-State and New England Music Festivals, and the Vermont Youth Orchestra Association and the Green Mountain Youth Orchestra. Elizabeth has also prepared many students successfully for college auditions in music performance and education. Recently Elizabeth has been a violin and viola sectional coach for the Vermont Youth Orchestra Association and has been on faculties for summer camps in Vermont and Canada, including CAMMAC and VYOA and the Green Mountain Youth Orchestra.
As a violist, Elizabeth Reid is known as a vibrant performer of both contemporary and classical music. A "fierce champion of today's music" (Times Argus), Elizabeth is the violist of the Vermont new music group TURNmusic, and the Northern Third Piano Quartet. She is also a member of the crossover group Yellow Sky, the baroque group "Living Woods, and the vocal chamber group "ARIOSO." As well, Elizabeth performs frequently in a duo with pianist Alison Cerutti.
Elizabeth is the principal violist of the Middlebury Opera Orchestra. She has also played with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, Music-COMP, and Capital City Concerts. Her studies in viola performance were at Western University and the Glenn Gould Professional School in Canada.
